Re: Interesting but long term.Vancouver Island partners sign hull design contract for floating LNG projectThere's an existing pipeline to Vancouver Island that is underutilized since several pulp mills, the primary industrial customers, have permanently closed operations. The VCR Island pipeline comes ashore near Campbell River, where there is an unused tidewater industrial site that used to house the Elk Falls pulp and paper operations, closed about 12 years ago. You'll note the modest size of the LNG facilities (capital costs under $1b). Being able to barge it in allows them to overcome the normal required economies of scale. Not that I am in anyway endorsing that this thing will go, just responding with data. It would be the same line as that required by Woodfibre LNG, a more likely project in my estimation. I suspect Woodfibre will take 100% of whatever gas can be delivered leaving the downstream end of that line to Vancouver Island well below capacity. Only existing customers will retain capacity past the kick-off from Woodfibre. But I'm just using logic, I have no direct knowledge of the capacities of the lines. Regards, Naamkat |
