Re: real world economicsI said that I do not want to dwell on arcane economic theory. You read a lot into that. You seem to be an economist so you will know that economic fads come and go. I distrust the quants and supply siders who, while glibly forecasting that all was well, sent the world over the cliff in the 2008 crash. I am interested in economics that has useful application in the real world. Last winter I read Austerity by Mark Blyth, a political economist. Blyth is a trenchant commentator who predicted the outcome of the brexit vote and the election of Trump. You can find a quick summary of his ideas on austerity here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=in5M65566iw This summer I read Misbehaving by Richard Thaler, the guy who last year got a Nobel in economics. He and a few others revealed that 'rational' Econ man, beloved by classical economists, had no clothes. I recommend both books to anyone interested in applied economics. A friend occasionally links me to articles in the Real World Economic Review which has much more in depth analysis, some of it very arcane. But this is a Cleantech board, not an economics board, and I'd like to keep the focus here on practical ways to limit the atmospheric pollution humans create that has us on track to drown and fry the globe.
