Trees and diamonds If General Motors can buy the rights to the rain forest and then claim carbon credits by promising not to cut them down. Why can't a person who buys diamond jewelry also claim a carbon credit as that carbon was removed from the earth and no longer can it be reconverted to carbon in the event of a volcanic episode.
